1. Portrait Size
Although you can order a portrait of any size you wish, for the best effect and the most realistic portrait, I recommend that you choose a portrait size that will allow me to paint the pet (or pets) as close to their "Actual Size" as possible. The following table will give you an idea of the sizes I recommend.

2. Portrait Orientation
You can have your portrait oriented in a vertical ("Portrait Style") or horizontal ("Landscape Style").
Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but for most Head & Shoulder portraits of upright individual pets you'll probably want your portrait painted "Portrait Style". And for portraits of more than one pet or Full Body portraits of laying pets, you'll probably want your portrait painted "Landscape Style".

3. Basic Backgrounds
A portrait with a "Basic Background" is a portrait of your pet in front of a single color backdrop, a lot like you would see in a portrait from a photography studio. This type of painting is perfect if you want a simple, elegant portrait that does nothing to distract from the subject.
You can have a Basic Background done in any color you want. For example, if you've already decided on a place to hang your portrait, you might choose a color that goes well with that room. Or you could select a color that contrasts, and brings out the color in your pets eyes. I'll help you choose the perfect background color for your portrait.

4. Custom Backgrounds
In some cases you may want something special for the background of your portrait. A "Custom Background" can be used many ways. To capture a moment in time by showing your pet in a certain holiday setting for example. Or maybe to help bring out the personality of your pets by showing them in their natural environments, or with their favorite toys.
However you'd like to use a Custom Background, keep in mind that it should be limited to two or three recognizable elements, and will generally be painted with less detail than the rest of the portrait so that focus isn't taken away from the subject of the painting.
