About The Pet Portrait Artist
Hello, my name is Richard Wilson (you can call me Rick). Yep, that goofy looking guy in the picture to your right is me. (One of the few times my wife was able to get me in a suit.)

Anyway, I created this section of the web site in the hopes that it will help you get to know a little more about me as an artist, and who you might be doing business with.

The Artist, Richard Wilson

About The Pet Portrait Artist Rule

Artist's Bio

I'm a 2nd generation artist living in Carol Stream, Illinois (about 30 min. west of Chicago). I'm currently holding a full-time job in the printing industry, and doing "Web Site Design" and "Portrait Painting" (people and pets) on a part-time basis.

I've been drawing or painting in some form for as long as I can remember, and I come from a family that always had pets (dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, snakes, you name it). My wife, our son and I currently have 3 wonderful cats (Athena, Tesla and Tabitha), and our son and I would love to have a dog (as soon as my wife lets us).

I couldn't imagine ever living without a pet or two... I guess with my love of animals, and artistic tendencies, painting pet portraits is just a natural combination for me.

My Portrait Painting Style

I've had all the basic studies in Commercial Art, Graphic Design, Illustration and Oil Painting, but as with most artists, my painting style and many of my techniques have been developed on my own.

I've been told that my paintings convey a very "realistic" likeness of the animals I paint, but I also try hard to capture the personality of the subject. After all... a lot of animals have the same look, but its their unique personalities that make them "one of a kind".

Artist's Portrait Painting Philosophy

I think what I enjoy the most about painting pet portraits is seeing people's faces "light-up" when they see their finished portrait for the first time. It makes me feel "warm & fuzzy" inside, and I wouldn't give it up for anything.

That's why I will never be satisfied with any portrait until I'm 100% sure that it meets or exceeds your expectations. I'm not happy until you're happy... and once you're happy we'll both know it... because there's nothing like the reaction of a happy pet lover.
